Mookie Betts agrees to $20 million contract

Mookie Betts isn't going to an arbitration hearing this time around.

According to a major league source, the Red Sox and Betts have come to terms on a one-year deal worth $20 million. It is a record number for a player at this stage of arbitration, with Betts still having one more year of arbitration-eligibility to go. Josh Donaldson holds the record for highest settlement for an arbitration-eligible player, reeling in $23 million last offseason.

Betts won his arbitration case with the Red Sox a year ago, securing $10.5 million.

Jon Heyman of FanCred and Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet were first to report the agreement.
