Red Sox, Dodgers reportedly approaching resolution in Mookie Betts talks

We seem to be drawing closer to an answer when it comes to whether or not the Red Sox will be trading Mookie Betts.

According to The Athletic, one of the two primary suitors for Betts -- the Dodgers -- have "approached a resolution" in their talks the Red Sox.

It appears as though the Dodgers would be reluctant to part with either of their prized prospects Gavin Lux or Dustin May, although the Los Angeles farm system is still rich with pieces that would make a trade for Betts attractive. There is also some question if David Price would be part of any deal, as the teams have discussed.

The impetus for the Dodgers finding an end-point to the trade talks isn't complicated. They don't want to be used as leverage in the Red Sox' talks with San Diego, the other club hot on the trail of Betts.

While the Red Sox previously were content in riding into 2020 with Betts on the roster, the dynamic of two teams vying for superiority in the same division with healthy farm systems and financial flexibility has become a gift for Chaim Bloom and Co.

Now comes the time for the Red Sox to firmly identify if they can get enough from either the Dodgers or Padres to make it worth their while.
