Red Sox identified as MLB's 3rd-most valuable franchise

The numbers are in, at least for 2019.

According to Forbes, the Red Sox have been valued as a franchise worth $3.3 billion, the third-highest of any Major League Baseball organization. It is a three percent increase from the year before.


The only two franchises the Red Sox trailed were the Yankees, who were up to $5 billion (a 9 percent increase), and the Dodgers. Los Angeles landed at $3.4 billion, a three percent jump.

MLB as a whole finished 2019 with $10.5 billion in revenues. Gate receipts, which baseball may have to go without if a 2020 season is played, make up $3.2 billion in revenue.

The average value of MLB teams rose by four percent from 2018, up to $1.85 billion. The only franchise worth less than $1 billion is the Miami Marlins, which fell a valuation of $980 million (2 percent than the year before. The Pirates represented the only team to see its worth devalue.
