Much has been made about the disappointing attendance in Major League Baseball throughout the first two weeks of the regular season, leading to questions regarding the diminished interest in the sport.

But in Boston, people are evidently paying attention.

Unofficially, the Red Sox game against the Yankees drew an 8.9 rating Tuesday night on NESN, which would have constituted the highest rating for any game during the 2017 season. The rating peaked at a massive 11.4.

Perhaps more encouraging for NESN has been the jump its had in the younger demographics. Before the series opener against the Yankees, the Red Sox' ratings for viewers within the 18-34-year-old range were up 47 percent from last season, with the number jumping to 53 percent year over year for 25-54-year-olds.

The Red Sox are currently 11th overall in home attendance, averaging 33,072 fans in their four games at Fenway Park. There are 10 MLB teams averaging fewer than 23,000 fans per home game, with the Dodgers leading all clubs by drawing in 47,224 a game through five home dates.
