Red Sox report: This team looks awfully familiar

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- There was something familiar about the sights and sounds from JetBlue Park Monday, one day before Red Sox pitchers and catchers are required to show up to spring training.

That's what happens when you basically have the same team back.

There were a few adjustments here and there from 2017. (Rafael Devers isn't just an extra body at the end of the spring training clubhouse, as was the case last year.) But looking around, it's hard to decipher any huge alterations. And, at least according to one player, that's OK with the current cast.

"There's so much talent on this team we didn't need to make many adjustments," said Drew Pomeranz. "A lot of [teams> made many additions, but I didn't feel like we need to make many additions. We're such a good team already. We won the East, and obviously we would have liked to make it further in the playoffs, but it's something to push forward to next year."

As for what these guys did on the last official day of no commitments ...

- The pitchers gathered together for some light stretching, followed by the execution of a few bullpen sessions (including one by David Price). It appeared as though all the regular pitchers were in attendance, with Joe Kelly arriving later in the morning.

The position players who showed up adjourned to Field 1, where a group that included Jackie Bradley Jr., a beefed up Brock Holt, Andrew Benintendi, Devers, Tzu-Wei Lin, Sam Travis, Deven Marrero and non-roster second baseman/Jose Altuve lookalike Estaban Quiroz did some light running before heading in for hitting.

As for any updates regarding the pursuit of J.D. Martinez, Ken Rosenthal reports that the slugger's agent Scott Boras did meet with Arizona owner Ken Kendrick last week.

Familiar face Ryan Hanigan has at least found a new team, signing a minor-league deal with the Indians.
