One of the few certainties for the Red Sox this season wasn't so certain Thursday night.
David Price, who had been by far the most consistent starter for the Sox, experienced his worst outing of the year, retiring just four Rangers batters while giving up six runs.
During the 49-pitch appearance, the lefty allowed five hits and a walk, giving up four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. He ultimately gave way to reliever Mike Shawaryn.
Coming into the series finale against the Rangers Price carried a team-leading 2.70 ERA, having not allowed more than four runs in any of his 11 starts this season. Since his first two starts of the season Price has been dominant compiling a 1.88 ERA while going 4-1.
Prior to the game Red Sox manager Alex Cora explained how important Price had been.
