It was going to be difficult enough going up against Jacob deGrom. Now the Red Sox are trying their hand against the National League Cy Young Award winner without Xander Bogaerts in the starting lineup.
As was first revealed by Ron Roenicke on OMF with Glenn Ordway, Lou Merloni and Christian Fauria, the Red Sox manager is sitting the shortstop because of soreness stemming from two nights before. Tzu-Wei Lin will take Bogaerts spot at shortstop.
Also of note heading into the tilt in New York is Roenicke putting Andrew Benintendi back at the top of the batting order, with the red-hot Kevin Pillar serving as the odd-man-out in the Sox' outfield.
Here is the Red Sox' lineup with Nathan Eovaldi starting for the visitors:
Andrew Benintendi LF
J.D. Martinez DH
Rafael Devers 3B
Mitch Moreland 1B
Christian Vazquez C
Alex Verdugo RF
Jose Peraza 2B
Jackie Bradley Jr. CF
Tzu-Wei Lin SS
