After a long wait, the Patriots finally made another selection in the 2018 NFL draft.
At pick No. 143 overall in the fifth round, they selected linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley out of Purdue. This was their first pick since the second round.
Here are three quick things to know about the newest Patriots linebacker.
-- Bentley is an inside linebacker who is known for stopping the run, but is said to have issues defending the pass. As a senior, he finished with 89 tackles, 9.5 for loss, three pass breakups and an interception. He is extremely strong, as he put up 31 bench reps at his pro day. He has missed games in each of the last three seasons, including tearing his ACL in 2015.
-- He was the first three-time captain in Purdue history, which obviously speaks to his leadership skills. A three-time captain at a school like Purdue is no joke.
-- According to PFF, his 91.2 overall grade ranked second among draft-eligible linebackers in 2017.
Here are some of his highlights.
The Patriots will now have three picks in the sixth round.
