FOXBOROUGH -- A major storyline this offseason with the Patriots was the organization filing tampering charges against the Texans over the pursuit of Nick Caserio for their GM opening.
While not many details regarding the issue were surfaced, Bill Belichick confirmed Wednesday it was not because of Jack Easterby.
"Didn’t have anything to do with Jack Easterby," he said. "Look, all of that’s in the past and I don’t think it has any bearing on this game."
Houston requested to interview Caserio this spring, who is in the last year of his contract as the Patriots' director of player personnel, but it was declined by the team.
Some speculated Easterby spoke to Caserio about the opening when he returned to New England for the Super Bowl ring ceremony in June. Easterby departed for Houston this offseason and is now its executive vice president of team development.
With Houston not hiring a general manager for this year, it is expected it will go after Caserio again this offseason.
The Patriots will travel to Houston to take on the Texans Sunday night.
