Bill Belichick lost one of his best assistant coaches this offseason, as Matt Patricia became the new head coach of the Lions.

Belichick joined Rich Eisen and Mike Mayock in the NFL Network booth at the NFL combine Monday morning and detailed what the Lions will be getting in Patricia.

"He's going to bring a great work ethic -- a lot of intelligence, a lot of thought into everything they do from practice to strategy, to situational football, and they are going to work hard, I guarantee you that," Belichick said. "Matt is as hard of a working guy I have every been around. He grinds it."

"He's smart too," he added. "He put together those rockets there in college. I can't even get my cell phone on."

When Patricia spoke last week at the combine he detailed what the last few weeks have been like adjusting to life as a head coach.

"That's a good question because it's kind of a whirlwind right now," he said. "I mean, it's all been unbelievable from the standpoint of just, you know, everything that you're involved in and kind of trying to make decisions on, which is great. Big focus is trying to get through the process. You know, just setting timelines for, 'OK, hey, we're working on this this week. Next week we've got to move on to that.' And really putting a schedule together for the short-term and long-term, looking at big picture where we want to be, say, in a month or two months and then where we are and where we want to be in a week.

"So it's been fun and a challenge all kind of wrapped into one."
