After a tough road trip, the Red Sox will get a spark in addition to returning to Fenway Park -- the return of Dustin Pedroia.
Pedroia was reinstated off the injured list prior to Tuesday's game and will bat seventh against Blue Jays right-hander Matt Shoemaker. The 35-year-old began the season on the injured list with left knee inflammation and appeared in three rehab games with Single-A Greenville, playing 23 innings at second base and going 3-for-9 with two walks, a double, and a run scored.
Infielder Tzu-Wei Lin has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Pedroia.
Andrew Benintendi will stay in the lead off spot, while Mitch Moreland will get the start at first base against Shoemaker.
Christian Vazquez will catch Red Sox starter Chris Sale.
