It looks like Nathan Eovaldi is ready for his to return to the Red Sox.
The right-hander made a rehab appearance with Triple-A Pawtucket Thursday morning when he pitched the second inning. Eovaldi struck out three batters, while mixing in a walk. He threw 19 pitches, 11 of them going for strikes.
Manager Alex Cora said on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria Wednesday that if all went well, Eovaldi would likely be activated over the weekend in Baltimore. While this was his lone rehab outing, he threw to Red Sox hitters on two occasions at Fenway Park.
Eovaldi will be returning as the closer after being out since April with loose bodies in his elbow.
