For the second year in a row, the Red Sox have traded away a minor league player to the Reds in exchange for international signing bonus pool space. Last year it was Nick Longhi, this year it's outfielder Lorenzo Cedrola as the deal was announced on Monday.

The 20-year-old Cedrola has appeared in 50 games with Single-A Greenville this season where he batted .318 with a .776 OPS. He's played all over the outfield, but mostly center field, as he's accumulated 211 starts at the position. This has been a breakout season for him, which made him attractive in a trade.

Monday was the start of the international signing period and the Red Sox are typically one of the most active teams in baseball. Going into the day, the organization had $4,983,500 in bonus money to hand out, but with this deal they will add even more with the hopes of landing some of the top available prospects.

It's been reported the Red Sox have already landed outfielder Eduardo Lopez, the No. 23 ranked international prospect, according to MLB.com.
