Brian Hoyer doesn't see many differences with Patriots offense after losing Tom Brady

Brian Hoyer knows the Patriots offense better than most as this is his third stint with the team, but this one is a little different -- Tom Brady is no longer the quarterback.

With Brady in Tampa Bay and Cam Newton along with Jarrett Stidham on the QB depth chart, many expect the offense to look a lot different this year. But according to Hoyer, there aren't many big adjustments to scheme without the 43-year-old.

"No not really, I mean look there's 20 years of foundation in this offense, and I think the one thing that I've realized is each year that I've been a part of the team the offense is a little bit different you adjust to your players your personnel the defense's scheme and I think that's the great thing about this offense, it's always evolving," Hoyer said via video conference Monday. "I think there's a great group of core plays and formations and things that we have and I think on a weekly basis that's what we do the best -- go in and see what we need to do to attack the defense."

As for working with Newton, Hoyer likes it.

"It's been fun," he said. "Cam brings a lot of energy obviously, get to pick his brain on the system he's been in and his experiences. Look, I'm always trying to learn and you learn from different teammates, you learn from different people and I've enjoyed it."

While Hoyer may be behind Newton and Stidham on the depth chart, he continues to have the same mentality he's always had.

"I'm always competing for the starting quarterback spot whether it was Tom in front of me or whoever else was here," he said. "I think you have to look at it that way. You never know when your number's going to get called. You never know what you are going to get and you really can only control what you can control. I go out there and whatever reps I have, I try to go out and execute them the best I can and until someone tells me otherwise. I'm always gonna prepare like that."

It seems more likely than not the Patriots will carry three quarterbacks this season.
