3 quick takeaways from Celtics' scrimmage vs. Rockets

The Celtics were blown out by the Rockets, 137-112, Tuesday night in the final scrimmage before the team resumes its regular season Friday against the Bucks.

The result really doesn't matter as the team seems to be in good shape heading into the restart.

Here are three quick takeaways from the game.

Starters didn't play

Unlike Houston, where James Harden played 29 minutes and scored 35 points, the Celtics rested their starters. Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Marcus Smart, and Enes Kanter did not play at all, which Brad Stevens said would happen when speaking to reporters before the game. "It's more about having the appropriate amount of time to prepare and the appropriate amount of time to rest going into playing basically every other day for the next couple of weeks with one exception, when we play a back-to-back," he said. "So being that we play Friday night, those guys all got in a hard workout yesterday, and we went pretty hard. And then we took today off and we'll practice again tomorrow. Just decided those two practice days, as we get ready for what's ahead, are more important right now."

Grant Williams takes advantage

Williams was the star of the game for the Celtics, taking advantage of some increased minutes. He finished with 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting, pulled down nine rebounds and added two assists. He was all over the court, especially in the first half. It will be interesting to see how his minutes go once the games start for real. Carsen Edwards added a team-high 19 points and added five rebounds and four assists.

Tacko Fall plays, but doesn't have crowd to go wild

Every time Fall checked into a game this year, the crowd would go crazy. With no fans in the NBA bubble, that did not happen Tuesday and NBC Sports Boston's Mike Gorman had a good line when he checked into the game.
