FOXBORO -- Chris Hogan has done a nice job in his two seasons in New England, and it appears the team has interest in more.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots and Hogan have engaged in negotiations regarding a contract extension, but the two sides are too far apart in the early stages of the process. The report adds things could get tricky since the market for a No. 2 receiver has gone up to around $8 million a year and the Patriots may not be willing to go there.

In nine games last season, Hogan finished with 439 yards and five touchdowns. He has good chemistry with Tom Brady, which of course is imperative to succeeding in the Patriots offense.

After this season, the only receivers under contract are Julian Edelman, Matthew Slater and Braxton Berrios (assuming he makes the team).
