Craig Kimbrel officially is not returning to the Red Sox.
The closer has signed with the Cubs, according to Ken Rosenthal. They are tied with the Brewers atop the NL Central, but have blown 11 saves this season, so help to their bullpen was certainly needed.
The 31-year-old finished last year with 42 saves and an ERA of 2.74.
It was pretty clear at this point the Red Sox were not going to land him, but now it no longer is even a topic of discussion.
