FOXBORO -- On Tuesday, the Super Bowl LII champion Eagles were supposed to visit the White House as guests of Donald Trump, but on Monday night the president canceled the visit.
Many cited the reason being many Eagles players were planning on skipping the event, and also the recent national anthem issue.
Following Tuesday's minicamp session, some Patriots players were asked their thoughts on the matter, as they visited the White House last year at this time. It was roughly a 50-50 split for Patriots players who went and players who didn't.
"It's hard because I don't know exactly what the situation was," safety Devin McCourty said. "I think I read something that some guys are going, some weren't. So I don't want to comment like not fully knowing it. But we're not surprised, are we?"
Matthew Slater didn't really want to get into it.
"It's not really something I can speak to," he said. "I've never been an Eagle. I've never been in their shoes. Obviously, it's a situation that is a difficult one, but I can't really speak to it."
And Bill Belichick really didn't want to get into it.
"We're focused on what we're doing," he said. "Yeah, we're focused on what we're doing today. We want to try to have a good day."
Slater and wide receiver Chris Hogan did speak a little on the national anthem issue and both said they plan to stand with their hands over their heart.
