After signing a contract as a free agent this week, Dion Lewis was introduced to the Tennessee media on Thursday.
The 27-year-old was asked about his past, which has included multiple injuries and a point in time where no NFL teams wanted him. In 2014, Lewis was sitting at home because no teams wanted him after he was released by the Colts in September.
He's used the doubters in his life as motivation.
"Just my life," Lewis said to reporters. "Just the way I grew up, the way my parents pushed me, never really being looked up to. It's a tough situation, man. It's just — it's emotional. ... It's good to have people believe in you, and I've just got to make it right."
Added Lewis: "Nobody's ever wanted me. That's why I'm the person I am today. That's why I work. That's who I am. Being doubted your whole life, just using that. I would never be bitter for not getting a chance from anybody. They're going to feel that pain when they see that success I'm going to have, though."
The running back will share a backfield with Derrick Henry after signing a reported four-year, $20 million contract.
"I just want to be in a place where I felt comfortable, where I felt wanted," he said. "And that's what I felt here."
Lewis is coming off his best season where he played the full 16 games for the first time and finished with 896 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He also added 32 receptions and three receiving touchdowns.
