BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Patriots don't have many free agents this coming offseason, but Dion Lewis is one of the biggest.
The running back has been tremendous down the stretch, as he's needed to carry the load with so many injuries at the position.
Speaking at Patriots media availability on Tuesday, Lewis indicated he would like to stay with the Patriots.
"All the stuff I've learned, football-wise, from a football standpoint, just being here, learning how to be a champion, that's something I'll always remember regardless of what happens [as a free agent]," Lewis said. "Just cherishing my moments here. I'm extremely grateful for what they did for me, the opportunities they gave me. Nobody's really given me a chance, but these guys gave me a chance. That definitely means a lot to me. I'll always remember what I learned here, and hopefully I'll still be here."
Lewis is grateful for what the Patriots have been able to do for his career, as he hadn't accomplished much until he came to the organization in 2015.
"Just being able to compete," he said. "They give everybody a chance to compete. They put you in situations to succeed and they are not going to ask you to do things you can't do. They are going to put you in situations that they know you can do something really good and they are going to make sure you're in that position. I think that is why this team is so good. The coaches do a great job of that."
The 27-year-old came into the league with the Eagles, but he was traded to the Browns after two years.
As for what he remembers most about being with the Eagles, it seemed like Lewis had his answer on cue.
"Not playing," he said with a smile on his face.
Lewis should play a big role in Super Bowl LII against his former team on Sunday night.
