Duke QB Daniel Jones stands out at pro day, may be off board for Patriots at No. 32

Over the last few months, many have connected Duke quarterback Daniel Jones to the Patriots at No. 32 overall.

But, Jones has continued to climb mock draft boards with his performance at the combine and then this week at his pro day.

In fact, NFL Media's draft guru Daniel Jeremiah now believes Jones won't even be around when the Patriots make their first selection.

"I think he's going to be a first-round pick," Jeremiah said after being on hand for the workout. "There are too many teams that need quarterbacks and when you look at Daniel Jones, you look at the combination of size, athleticism, intelligence, toughness, work ethic -- all of those things, he checks all of those boxes. Now, he didn't have the best supporting cast. He's not going to wow you with the stat page of what he did here at Duke. But skillset-wise, there is a lot to work with and I think because of all those intangibles coupled with that, I do believe he's going to be a first-round pick.

"Look at teams that are here - the Washington Redskins, the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants - I would say if I was going to guess, he'll be with one of those teams. I wouldn't rule out a team like the Los Angeles Chargers as well who could potentially be looking at quarterback, they're going to be picking towards the bottom of the first round. But I would be very surprised if when it's all said and done Daniel Jones does not go in the first round. He will be a first rounder."

It does not appear the Patriots will select a quarterback in the first round given their other needs. Also, they are reportedly one of the many teams interested in trading for Josh Rosen.

As for what positions they might target with their first selection, look at tight end and defensive line.
