Former Patriots scout and current executive director of the Senior Bowl Jim Nagy really likes Jarrett Stidham, but if there was a quarterback in the draft who he could see flourishing in New England, it's Utah State's Jordan Love.
Nagy joined Mut at Night on Tuesday and said Love will be really interesting to watch because if he starts to slip and gets closer to the Patriots at No. 23 overall, he could see Bill Belichick making a move.
“The interesting thing, here’s where it is for me, is that if Jordan Love starts to fall a little bit -- then it will be interesting to see," he said. "He is the one guy you could bring in that does have the talent that Jarrett Stidham does. This kid is super talented. If he is in the right system, he could really flourish and be a high-end NFL player. People are just trying to reconcile the difference between his sophomore tape and his junior tape, and there was a difference. You can talk out of both sides of your mouth with him, really. It just depends what side you fall on.
"I would be pounding the table for him. If he starts to tumble and gets anywhere near them, I don’t think Coach Belichick wants to ever be in a position to draft a kid as talented as Jordan Love. Based off his talent alone, he should be a top-10 pick. But, because of his junior tape, it has created a little doubt. If Jordan were to come back next year, second year in the system with that coaching staff and hopefully a little better surrounding cast, him, Trevor Lawrence, that would have been the conversation. But, he didn’t. He came out after a little bit of a rough year. I will be interested to see that. If he gets in range, do they give something up to try and move up and get him?”
After pick No. 23, the Patriots do not have another selection until No. 87 overall in Round 3.
A quarterback is expected to be taken in Rounds 1-3.
