NASHVILLE — Logan Ryan loved to talk trash, especially during practice.
Some of the biggest battles came against wide receiver Julian Edelman whenever the two would get matched up 1-on-1. When the preseason schedule came out, it looked like it could have happened again, but Edelman is on NFI with a thumb injury.
“I wanted the squirrel out there, but he took a couple weeks off, I guess,” Ryan said after Wednesday’s joint practice.
Ryan and the Titans defense did a decent job against Tom Brady and the Patriots offense, although a lot of that could be pointed to the group missing a lot of its receivers due to injury.
Without Edelman on the field, Ryan seemed to have a little back and forth with Tom Brady.
“He told me he’s going to know every play I was blitzing today,” Ryan said. “He was pretty much right on most of them. I got him on one. I do want to say that on record. But he’s as sharp as ever, and he makes us better. I think it was competitive today. I think we made it tough on him today, but I think he made it tough on us too.”
Although Ryan hasn’t faced Brady every day in practice for several seasons, he still knows just how good he is.
“Whenever he’s out there, you’ve got to be on high alert, obviously,” he said. “It was good competition today. It was hot. I thought we brought great energy. It was physical, but he definitely made some good throws. There’s no surprise he’s still pretty good.”
The two teams will practice again on Thursday before Saturday’s second preseason game.
