It seemed like a long-shot at this point, but veteran defensive tackle Gerald McCoy will not be coming to New England.
Following being released by Tampa Bay a few weeks back, McCoy signed a one-year deal worth up to $10.25 million, including a $4 million signing bonus with the Panthers on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McCoy visited the Browns, Ravens and Panthers over the last week or so.
The 31-year-old has yet to play in a NFL playoff game and he said he wanted this next team to be a contender, which was why many connected him to New England.
But, it likely never would been possible because the Patriots would not have been able to come close to his financial demands.
