There will be a lot of familiar faces with the PawSox this weekend in Rochester.
On Thursday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced a few players who will be rehabbing with Triple-A Pawtucket beginning Friday -- Dustin Pedroia, Austin Maddox, Tyler Thornburg and Hector Velazquez.
Pedroia rehabbed in one game earlier in the week in Pawtucket, but then saw his next scheduled game get rained out. It seems the next step for him is to play back-to-back games. With him not exactly having a spring training, he may need more time than a normal rehab stint.
Cora was asked directly if Pedroia potentially could return this month?
"There's a chance," he said.
Thornburg is working his way back from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery he had last June. The right-hander was shut down for a few days earlier in the week, but it seems it wasn't a huge deal.
Velazquez was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 14 with a low back strain, and Maddox, who was shut down in spring training with shoulder inflammation and began the 2018 season on the 10-day disabled list, will make his first rehab appearance of the year.
After the weekend series in Rochester, the PawSox return home Monday for a nine-game homestand.
