Christian Fauria: Patriots offense has chance to be great in 2020

The expectations when it comes to Patriots offense have changed a great deal this offseason.

Obviously, they were sky high with Tom Brady at quarterback, then were low with the thought that second-year player Jarrett Stidham would be the starter, but now with Cam Newton in town they are back up again.

On Monday's Ordway, Merloni & Fauria show, Christian Fauria believes expectations before Newton should now be doubled.

“The whole us against the world mentality, I think you have the ability to break records," he said. "So whatever your expectations were, double it. Based on the fact that you have 10 out of the 11 starters have something to prove. The only person that doesn’t, and I would even say Joe Thuney you could put him in that category because he had one great year, they franchised you, can you do two great ones in a row? I think the offense has the chance to be great.”

Besides Newton, the offense has a very deep running backs group, perhaps the deepest in the entire league, and then several playmakers at wide receiver with things to prove -- Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu and N'Keal Harry. Not to mention two rookie tight ends -- Dalton Keene and Devin Asiasi -- who have the potential to make impacts as well.

Last season the unit finished 15th in total offense -- if everything goes as planned, it would not be a surprise to see the unit perform even better in 2020.
