Everything there is to know about Jarrett Stidham (hip) and when he might return

It was an interesting Friday when it comes to second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham.

Early on in the morning, WEEI's Nick "Fitzy" Stevens reported Stidham may be out for the "foreseeable future" with an injury. Then right before Patriots practice, it was confirmed by NFL Media that he's dealing with a leg injury and later added to by saying it's actually a hip injury and he may not be 100 percent for several weeks.

Stidham was on the practice field Friday, but did not do much at all. He threw a few passes early in the session, but did not push himself by any means. He also appeared limited in stretching by not doing some stretches on his leg/hip. While he stayed out there the entire time, he was not a full participant as Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer saw the majority of the reps.

ESPN's Adam Schefter added Stidham was taken to a local hospital Thursday for precautionary tests on his upper leg that came back negative.

As for what it all means moving forward, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said on a video conference after practice that Bill Belichick kept Stidham out Friday and he expects the QB to be "ready to roll" the next time the Patriots take the field, which will likely be Sunday.

If the report of Stidham not being 100 percent for a few weeks is accurate, it likely means we will start to see Newton get more reps and begin the process of fully preparing to be the starter Week 1.

More will likely be known later in the weekend when the Patriots return to the practice field and what Stidham actually does.
