INDIANAPOLIS -- Even though the Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers in late October, the final details of the trade become official on Friday.
The 49ers traded their second-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for Garoppolo, and after a coin flip on Friday at the NFL combine, the Patriots know what selection in the second-round they will have.
Oakland and San Francisco both finished with 6-10 records and had identical strength of schedule marks, which was why the coin flip was needed.
The 49ers won the toss so they will select ninth in the first-round, but since teams with the same record alternate slots in the later rounds, this means the Patriots will select No. 43 overall.
In the end, the Patriots traded Garoppolo for the No. 43 overall pick, which is much lower than what they likely thought at the time of the trade.
As time passes, it seems the return on Garoppolo has gotten worse and worse.
