It appears Josh Gordon will not play another game in a Patriots uniform.
The wide receiver was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a knee injury, but according to multiple reports the injury is minor, and he will be released/waived with injury settlement in the near future with the hope of joining another team.
Appearing on The Greg Hill Show Friday morning, Julian Edelman reacted to the news of the week.
“Yeah, it’s definitely tough," he said. "I have been in that situation where you’re put on IR. It is terrible for a guy just because you don’t get to play football with the team this year. I feel for him. It’s an unfortunate situation that he had to be put on IR. Now, we’ve got to worry about that guys who are in the room. That is part of football. That is the crappy part about football, that these types of things happen. Being able to compartmentalize and focus about what you have on your plate right now. The task at hand right now is the Cleveland Browns. That is part of this game.
"I wish him the best. I hope all his rehab and everything goes well. I told him, 'If you need anything I am here'. Now, I am focusing on the Cleveland Browns.”
The Patriots did acquire wide receiver Mohamed Sanu in a trade with the Falcons this week, so essentially for now it is a Sanu-for-Gordon swap.
“Sanu, he’s a ballplayer, man," Edelman said. "He’s played in this league for eight years now. He’s had a lot of production. He’s played in big games, and he can help us. He’s a stud. I am looking forward to going out to practice and building our unit and going from there. It’s starting to get to that time of the year where things are shaking out and teams that can focus on the little things the most, the best things happen to. That is kind of where I am at personally.”
The Patriots will take on the Browns Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
