Matt Patricia doesn't confirm reports he'll become coach of Lions, but notes there's process involved

Over the weekend there were multiple reports indicating Matt Patricia will become the next coach of the Lions.

Speaking on a conference call Monday morning, Patricia didn't confirm the rumors, but he didn't deny them, either.

"Yeah, I am really just in the same place as I was last week," he said. "I went through the process that the NFL allows us to go through and during the bye week I was able to have the opportunity to talk to a couple of teams, which I did, and quickly turned my focus to a very good Tennessee team and now I am onto a very dangerous Jacksonville team.

"There's a process involved with that. There's things that the league sends out as guidelines and I followed those when I could and fortunately, the good part for me is those are set up so I can really focus on my job that I need to do and that is to get ready for Jacksonville."

The process Patricia is likely referring to is how coaches' contracts with other teams cannot be finalized until their current team finishes the season, which means nothing can become official with the Lions until the Patriots' season ends.

Even though Patricia didn't confirm it, there seems to be a very strong likelihood of him becoming the next coach of the Lions.
