After it appeared Josh McDaniels was destined for Indy as its next head coach, there may be a change in plans.
On Monday morning, Titans and head coach Mike Mularkey parted ways, per the team, which now means another head-coaching job is available and this may be a better fit for McDaniels.
McDaniels is very close with Titans general manager Jon Robinson, who had been in the Patriots organization since 2002 before taking the Titans' GM job in 2016. Also, the Titans have a talented roster and if there are questions with the health of Andrew Luck, then maybe Marcus Mariota is a better quarterback to work with.
It seemed the Titans were sticking with Mularkey after their wild card win over the Chiefs when they released a statement saying they supported him, but the wording was vague and left the door open to move on after the season. It could also be a case of the Titans respecting McDaniels so much they didn't want him to go to the Colts, who are in their division.
As of now, it would appear McDaniels has a choice to make -- become the coach of the Colts or the coach of the Titans.
