As the days go by and the Dolphins still don’t have a coach, the more and more likely it seems they will be hiring Patriots de facto defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
According to Mike Jones of USA Today, the Dolphins have had strongest interest in Dallas’ Kris Richard and Flores, but they’re leaning towards Flores. Both coaches are still in the playoffs, which makes things interesting. Also, reports out of Dallas have indicated Richard plans on staying.
It is also worth noting it was reported earlier in the week Flores interviewed very well and was already then considered a favorite.
Richard and the Cowboys play the Rams this weekend, so perhaps things could come more into focus early next week.
Relating to the Patriots, there is no obvious replacement for him. One name to keep in mind would be Greg Schiano, who left Ohio State this week after Urban Meyer retired. He and Bill Belichick have been very close over the years.
