After Ken Rosenthal reported earlier Monday the Red Sox are looking for starting pitching via trade, a potential target has emerged.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets have engaged the Red Sox on starter Zack Wheeler. It should be noted the report adds discussions are in the early stages and the Red Sox are not the only team the Mets are talking to.

Sherman notes Mets VP/assistant GM for scouting and player development Allard Baird and VP of player personnel Jared Banner both spent multiple years with the Red Sox, which could help with negotiations.

The 29-year-old right-hander is 6-6 with a 4.69 ERA in 19 starts this season, although his best year came last season when he went 12-7 with a 3.31 ERA.
