FOXBORO -- Bill Belichick held his pre-training camp press conference Wednesday morning and predictably did not want to address most topics, including Tom Brady's contract and Josh Gordon's status.
The quarterback is entering the final year of his contract and has yet to ever play a season without a contract for the following season. Many expected something to get done this offseason, but obviously that did not happen. Of course, something could happen between now and the start of the season, but nothing appears to be in the works as of now.
"I am not going to talk about player contracts or any other contracts for that matter," Belichick said when asked about it.
Another offseason storyline was the status of Josh Gordon, who remains suspended indefinitely. The wide receiver did sign his tender with the Patriots this offseason, so if he were to be reinstated he would be on the Patriots roster.
"That would be a league matter. You should talk to them about that," Belichick said when asked if he has any clarity on his status.
Given the lack of depth at the wide receiver position, Gordon would certainly help if given the opportunity. Of course, it's hard to rely on him given what happened last season when he was suspended indefinitely in December and missed the entire postseason.
The Patriots officially will hit the practice field for training camp Thursday morning.
