Upon getting the 2018 Patriots media guide on Tuesday, a new coaching position was found: consultant to the head coach. This is Bret Bielema's official title with the team for the 2018 season.

After being let go by Arkansas last year, Bielema was representing the Patriots a bunch throughout the pre-draft process and then was on the field during spring workouts. Having a defensive background, it's likely he spends most of his time with the defense. Bielema also could help out on special teams with navigating the new rules.

Another notable addition is Deron Mayo. He will be the new assistant strength and conditioning coach. He's the brother of former Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo. Deron briefly was with the Broncos in 2011, but played six years in the CFL.

The Patriots open training camp Thursday.
