Although it was kind of expected after being placed on injured reserve after Week 2 last season due to a neck injury, James Devlin announced his retirement Monday.

The Patriots fullback said it is due to "unforeseen complications" following the injury suffered last season.

Despite being injured, Develin was around the team on a daily basis, including helping the coaching staff on the sidelines during games.

Develin thanked the entire Patriots organization, including Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick.

He was one of the most underrated Patriots over the last several years, as he spent seven years with the organization, playing in 83 games, including 31 starts.

It's worth wondering if rookie Dalton Keene could potentially have a fullback role, although the team does have Jakob Johnson, who spent last season on IR, and Dan Vitale, who it signed this offseason.

THANK YOU.
