Some wondered why the Patriots brought in so many receivers for pre-draft workouts. Now, a few months after the draft, it appears the organization liked a number of them and enough so to even consider taking one in the first round.
According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley was on a small list of possibilities for the team to select at No. 23 overall. Ridley was one of several top receivers to make a pre-draft visit to Gillette Stadium.
Of course, the Patriots ended up be selecting Georgia offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn at No. 23. Reiss noted it's sometimes easier to project how offensive linemen will make the jump to the NFL opposed to wide receivers.
Ridley ended up by being selected at No. 26 overall by the Falcons.
It would have been interesting to see Ridley in the Patriots offense, as he has the potential to be a very productive player at the NFL level.
