INDIANAPOLIS -- The Dwayne Allen era in New England may be over.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots have informed Allen he will be released. The tight end was due $6.4 million in 2019, which obviously isn't close to what his production merits. The report notes he could potentially return on a lesser salary, but he will become a free agent.
In two seasons with the Patriots, Allen had just 13 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. He was traded from the Colts two offseason's ago.
It comes as no surprise the Patriots have been very active at the combine meeting with tight ends.
