The Patriots have begun the process of freeing up cap space.
Defensive end Adrian Clayborn has been released, according to his Twitter.
The 30-year-old was the Patriots' biggest signing last offseason and it was a disappointing year, as he finished with 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He was also a healthy scratch in two games, as it didn't appear he fully fit the system.
The release frees up roughly $4 million in cap space, which is much needed.
