The Patriots signed veteran wide receiver Cameron Meredith last Friday and immediately placed him on PUP.
Meredith was let go by the Saints in late July as he has battled knee injuries the last couple of seasons. He didn't play at all in 2017 and then last year finished with only nine receptions in six games.
Clearly, the Patriots have a need at wide receiver, but the details of Meredith's deal indicate it's more of a signing for the long-term with the hope he can get healthy.
According to multiple reports, the deal is for two years and worth $2.02 million with no guaranteed money and injury waivers for both years. He has a base salary of $720,000 for this year, and then $820,000 for next year, along with an $80,000 workout bonus, and $400,000 worth of roster bonuses.
The 26-year-old did not receive a signing bonus.
Based on the terms, it seems like anything the team gets from him this year is a bonus and it is more of a signing for 2020 as he works his way back to full strength.
