The next few days are huge in the NFL world.
Saturday night is the deadline for players to vote on the new CBA. If it passes, there will be labor peace for the next 11 years and not have the possibility of a work stoppage following next season. Then Monday begins the legal tampering period for free agents and Wednesday the new league year begins where free agents are able sign wherever they choose.
But, will all that actually happen?
The CBA vote likely will still take place, but free agency matters could potentially be put on hold due to coronavirus.
As of Saturday morning, the NFL has no plans of changing things, but according to Pro Football Talk, the league is contemplating the possibility of announcing on Sunday a delay in the start of free agency. It wants to wait until the CBA voting closes before making a final decision.
While most of free agency can be done remotely and over the phone, there are some things that cannot. Physicals are a major one, and also some players want to actually visit prospective teams before making a decision. For instance, Tom Brady may want visit a few teams to get that first class treatment before making a decision on where he wants to sign. With some teams already announcing their facilities will be closed next week, wouldn't there be a competitive advantage for teams that aren't?
The NFL has already canceled all in-person workouts and meetings for draft prospects.
Regardless of what happens, it will be an interesting next few days in the NFL to say the least.
