Keep an eye on Patriots guard Joe Thuney this week.
The Patriots placed the franchise tag on the 27-year-old last month and released a statement saying they were working towards a long-term deal, but according to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the two sides are currently not close.
Given he's currently counting for just under $15 million against the salary cap, the Patriots could look to shop him this week during the NFL Draft to free up some money, as with just over $1 million in cap space, the team cannot afford his high cap number.
If a team that desperately needs a guard misses out on one in the high rounds, perhaps they could call the Patriots. Or, if a team likes Thuney better than anyone they could select in the draft, maybe they call the Patriots ahead of Thursday.
Whether it's an extension or trade, it's likely something happens with Thuney this week.
