On Wednedsay, it was reported the Patriots have sent safety Duron Harmon to the Lions in exchange for draft picks.

Now that the actual return is in, the Patriots did not get much at all.

According to multiple reports, New England sent Harmon and a seventh-round pick to Detroit and only got back a fifth-round pick (No. 172).

In other words, this was strictly a salary dump. The Patriots will save just under $4 million against the cap, which was needed considering the Patriots were hovering around $5 million in cap space before the trade.

With Devin McCourty recently re-signed for two years and over $20 million and Patrick Chung having a cap hit of close to $6 million, something had to give at safety. And with Terrence Brooks in place with a cap hit of under $2 million, it seems Harmon was the odd-man out.

Harmon was one of the leaders and one of the best locker room guys on the team, and will certainly be missed.
