There were two massive trades in the NFL Monday involving top wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Stefon Diggs.
Hopkins was sent from Houston to Arizona exchange for running back David Johnson and a second-round pick. Meanwhile, Diggs was dealt from Minnesota to Buffalo for a first, a fifth, a sixth and a 2021 fourth-round pick.
With the Patriots needing help at the wide receiver position, were they in on these players? The answer is yes.
According to NFL Media's Mike Giardi, the Patriots "checked in" on Diggs and Hopkins, but were unable or unwilling to surrender the necessary capital.
It's easy to see why the Patriots were out on Diggs, as that is a tremendous haul, and it's unlikely Bill O'Brien would have sent Hopkins to a conference rival.
The Patriots will continue to scour the market for pass catchers, as it certainly needs to be upgraded, especially without Tom Brady at quarterback.
