Patriots sign Michigan State QB Brian Lewerke as UDFA

The Patriots didn't draft a quarterback this weekend, but they did add two.

After signing J'Mar Smith as an undrafted free agent Saturday night, they added another Sunday afternoon in Michigan State's Brian Lewerke, per his agent.

(Click here for complete list of UDFA signings.)

Lewerke was a three-year starter and captain the last two years. His best year came this past fall when he completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 3,079 yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He was the first Spartan in school history to record more than 8,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing.

The knock on him is his decision-making and accuracy, as he failed to complete 60 percent of his passes in a single season.

It appears he will be competing with Smith for a spot on the practice squad.

Based on his tweet Saturday night after not getting drafted, he is very motivated, though.

I know I am a great QB. I'm extremely confident in that and I will prove it one way or another. I'll always praise God in the highs and the lows.
