Patriots reportedly have tried and failed to sign Nick Caserio to contract extension

It's looking more and more like Nick Caserio will be a free agent after the 2020 NFL draft.

According to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, the Patriots have tried to reach a contract extension with their director of player personnel, but have gotten nowhere. His deal expires after next year's draft.

Caserio was targeted by the Texans last offseason for their vacant GM opening, but tampering charges were filed and Caserio remained in New England. Houston did not hire a GM for this year and reportedly will not have one next year, either. Although that seems like it could change if Caserio were to be interested.

Besides Houston, there will certainly be a few other openings for Caserio to consider.

In addition, Monti Ossenfort, the Patriots' director of college scouting, also has an expiring contract.
