On Tuesday, the NFLPA announced the 2018 NFL salary cap is $177,200,000.
The next question as it relates to the Patriots is how much cap space do they have? This isn't an easy number to calculate without direct access to contract figures, but there are a few cap experts out there who do their best.
Miguel Benzan (@Patscap) has it at $14,650,554, while overthecap.com has it at $13,127,289.
As it stands now, the Patriots don't have all that much to spend this offseason, but as we know this number can change considerably with a few moves, and contracts can be done to work against the cap.
For example, if the Patriots cut Martellus Bennett that would save $6 million towards the cap and $5 million if Dwayne Allen is cut. There are several other players who could be cap casualties as well, including Alan Branch, Mike Gillislee and Shea McClellin.
NFL free agency begins next week.
