Along with several additions, there were some role changes from a year ago.
On offense, McDaniels is no longer the quarterbacks coach in addition to offensive coordinator as Fisch, a long-time coach, is now working with the quarterbacks. Lombardi shifts from assistant quarterbacks coach to working with the receivers after Joe Judge left for New York this offseason. Brown help Fears with running backs in addition to the kick returners, while it will take two coaches -- Popovich and Bricillo -- to replace Dante Scarnecchia up front. Hughes joined the organization after a variety of experience coaching in high school and college, including time at Ohio State as a quality control assistant.
Defensively, there were some role changes and also the youngest Belichick son, Brian, being promoted to safeties coach from coaching assistant. Covington moves from outside linebackers to defensive line to take over for Bret Bielema, who followed Judge to New York. Steve Belichick will take over for Covington at outside linebackers, while Mayo and Pellegrino remain steady at their respective positions. Sunseri played for the Patriots a few years back and recently coached at Alabama.
With the special teams, Achord was promoted to replace Judge and then Houston comes from Alabama working as a special teams analyst.
