Bill Belichick doesn't release statements on former players very often, most recently Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and now Stephen Gostkowski.

Gostkowski was released by the team after 14 seasons on Monday. He's the franchise's all-time leading scorer.

The 36-year-old was placed on season-ending injured reserve last year after four games due to a hip injury.

Belichick called him one of the best specialists he's ever coached, and also noted how well he did with replacing Adam Vinatieri as a rookie.

Here's the full statement.
