3 quick thoughts on Patriots fifth-round pick K Justin Rohrwasser

The Patriots have filled their need at kicker.

In the fifth round (No. 159 overall), the team selected Justin Rohrwasser from Marshall. He was the first kicker selected overall and will be tasked with replacing Stephen Gostkowski.

The Athletic's Dane Bruger, who knows the draft better than anyone, didn't have him in his list of top-10 kickers.

Here are three quick thoughts.

-- At Marshall this past fall, Rohrwasser went 18-for-21 on field goal attempts with a long of 53 yards. He missed one extra point in 36 attempts. As a junior, he made 15-of-21 field goal attempts with a long of 40 yards and made 44-of-46 extra point attempts.

-- Rohrwasser, who is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, played two seasons at the University of Rhode Island before transferring where he made 15-of-20 field goal attempts. He set a school record for points in a game by a kicker with 14 at Elon (three field goals, five extra points) in 2016.

-- He has six piercings and numerous tattoos. They include one that says "Liberty or death," another that says "Don't tread on me," as well as an American flag on his forearm and his initial on his triceps. "They're all random," he said to Marshall's athletic website.
